SBAC-PAD is an annual international conference series, the first of which was held 20 years ago, in 1987. Each conference has traditionally presented new developments, applications, as well as the latest trends in computer architecture and parallel and distributed technologies.
This year, the symposium returns to Gramado, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The conference will be held at the Hotel "Serra Azul," located in the heart of downtown Gramado and within walking distance of the main tourist attractions. The "Serra Azul" has a long tradition of hosting international events and will provide all necessary amenities to the conference attendees and their guests.
The SBAC-PAD 2007 will be organized by UFRGS (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul) and UFF (Fluminense Federal University) as they both have a long experience on planning and organizing several major conferences.
The SBAC-PAD series main objectives include, but not limited, to the following:
SBAC-PAD is an international event organized mainly by Brazilian Universities and Institutions which takes place in different states throughout the country.
The first SBAC-PAD was also organized by UFRGS, in 1987. After that, different well known institutions such as USP, UnB, UFRN, UFMG, UFF, UFPE, INPE and UFRJ became organizers. SBAC-PAD also counts with international support, as it is co-sponsored by IEEE. Furthermore, several international universities were involved in the organization, such as University of California (USA), University of Melbourne (Australia) and University of Tennessee (USA).
The Program Committee is entirely international and the percentage of acceptance is around 30%, which is the same acceptance rate from the best conferences in the world. Also, the invited speakers are usually renamed professors and researchers from the major high performance groups in the world. The event brought to Brazil Professors such as James Smith, Joel Saltz, Yale Patt, Gurindar Sohi, Jean-Luc Gaudiot, Luiz Barroso, Rajkumar Buyya among others. This assures a high quality conference with selected attendees.
Also, several major companies have become SBAC sponsors through the years, such as: NEC, IBM, SGI, Intel, Cisco Systems, Cray, among others.
The 19th International Symposium on Computer Architecture and High Performance Computing will be organized mainly by UFRGS (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul) and UFF (Fluminense Federal University). Additionally, SBC (Brazilian Computer Society) will be the main promoter with the co- sponsorship of IEEE Technical Committee in Computer Architecture. Moreover, the most important Brazilian agencies are involved with the event, such as:
Typically, SBAC-PAD is attended by 200 researchers, professors, students and other professionals interested in the field. These attendees came from several national and international universities, laboratories and institutions.
