In the surroundings of Gramado, different natural places can also be visited. In the sister city of Canela, just 10 km away, the visitor has access to a 130 meters waterfall, called "Cascata do Caracol", which is one of the top tourist attractions in the region. In the route to the waterfall, the visitor can also see a 700 year old tree, with more than 2,70 meters of diameter in the ground, of the critically endangered genus of Araucaria.
About 2 hours from Gramado, the visitor can meet other two great natural
attractions. The Canyons of Itaimbezinho and Fortaleza offers the visitor
a great view on surroundings areas, including easy and difficult
routes to the best sightings in the region. From the summit of Fortaleza
cliffs, the visitor can see more than 300 kilometers of beaches,
from Rio Grande do Sul
and the state of Santa Catarina.
These canyons are located
in the "Aparados da Serra" and "Serra Geral" brazilian natural parks,
which can be accessed from Gramado throught the scenic route of
"Campos de Cima da Serra".
