Abrimos espaço desta vez para papers em musicologia numa tentativa de se ampliarem os horizontes conceituais, estéticos e históricos. Isto é, mais do que a síntese de sons, a composição algorítmica, entre outros tópicos igualmente importantes, as fronteiras do simpósio foram expandidas de modo a se incluirem aqueles autores com background em disciplinas que de alguma maneira possam ajudar na avaliação de outras qualidades dessas pesquisas típicas da nossa área e de sua importância no cenário global da música e da ciência. O resultado, mais que satisfatório, traz sinais positivos de que a abordagem musicológica da computação musical deva estabelecer-se entre nós com o mesmo peso de qualquer um dos domínios já existentes.
Chegar ao sétimo Simpósio Brasileiro de Computação Musical mantendo-se um nível satisfatório em todas as suas atividades, quais sejam, papers, concertos, palestras, tutoriais e mesas-redondas, se deve ao esforço de alguns pesquisadores espalhados pelo Brasil, ao apoio ininterrupto da SBC e à cooperação internacional. Muitos dos principais nomes da computação musical nos têm honrado com suas visitas, palestras, artigos e composições. Rendemos aqui homenagem a todas essas pessoas ao mesmo tempo em que damos as boas vindas aos participantes deste simpósio de Curitiba.
