Call for Papers

SBAC-PAD is an established annual international conference series dating back to 1987. Each year, the conference has traditionally presented leading edge developments in high performance applications, as well as the latest trends in computer architecture and parallel and distributed technologies. SBAC-PAD 2011 is again being sponsored by the SBC (Brazilian Computer Society), the IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing), and the IEEE Computer Society (approval pending) through the Technical Committees on Computer Architecture (TCCA) and Scalable Computing (TCSC). The conference traditionally has strong international participation, attracting submissions from dozens of countries. The selection process is competitive, with acceptance rates below 33%. The proceedings will be published by the IEEE and will also be available online through the IEEE Digital Library.

In 2011, the symposium will be hosted by the Federal University of Espírito Santo and held in Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil. Vitória is the capital of the Espírito Santo State. It was founded by the Portuguese in 1535 and it is located in a small island within a bay. Surrounded by green hills and beautiful tropical beaches, Vitória is a preferred tourism destination in Brazil.

Authors are invited to submit original unpublished manuscripts on topics from a wide range of high-performance computing areas, including computer architecture, systems software, languages and compilers, algorithms, and applications. Specifically, topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

  • Application-specific systems
  • Benchmarking, performance measurements, and analysis
  • Cloud, Grid, cluster, and peer-to-peer systems
  • Embedded and pervasive systems
  • GPUs, FPGAs and other accelerator architectures
  • Languages, compilers, and tools for parallel and distributed programming
  • Modeling and simulation methodology
  • Operating systems and virtualization
  • Parallel and distributed systems, algorithms, and applications
  • Power and energy-efficient systems
  • Processor, cache, memory, storage, and network architecture
  • Real-world applications and case studies
  • Reconfigurable and fault-tolerant systems

All manuscripts will be reviewed and judged on correctness, originality, technical strength, significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the conference attendees. We also seek to provide a forum for the early dissemination of original contributions on emerging topics, such as programming systems and tools for many-core processors, management software for solid-state storage systems, all aspects of game consoles, green IT and data-center-scale computing. Submissions on new topics will be reviewed with the understanding that they are likely to contain more limited quantitative evaluations than those on established topics. Submissions must be in English, 8 pages maximum, following the IEEE conference formatting guidelines.

The authors of selected papers will also be invited to submit extended versions of their work for possible publication in special issues of relevant top quality international journals including Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience.

Important Dates:

  • Paper submission deadline: July 3rd, 2011
  • Tutorial proposals: July 3rd, 2011
  • Author Notification: August 15, 2011
  • Camera-ready version: August 30, 2011
  • Conference: October 26-29, 2011
